I’m Mikey a queer artist whose art-making is informed by my community-driven art therapy practice that intersects between fiber crafts, counseling, education, and craftivism. I create characters for the enjoyment of being immersed in my own queer imagination and challenge binary ways of thinking of gender. These characters range from magical unicorns to winking rainbows who come in the form of plush toys and zines I call “Yarnies.” I use my Yarnies along with my art therapy practice to connect with queers from childhood to adulthood by creating radical quilts or plush characters of queer icons together.
