Erin Bliss is a Chicago-based artist and wood worker focused on making beautiful and practical art objects from reclaimed and found materials. She reorganizes and reveals the inherent beauty of an old material in a new form that induces a sense of wonder separate from its past life. She uses her intuition to guide what she makes. She has control over the process but it is the materials themselves that dictate the end result. She has worked making furniture, art and functional objects for the last five years. Currently she works at The Oriental Institute Museum as a preparator, making all of the things that the museum needs. She builds walls, pedestals and metal mounts to hold ancient objects in their cases. She also teaches woodworking classes at The Rebuilding Exchange using the material that you see around you. Over time she has developed a deep affection for forgotten and salvaged materials and objects that has always been a fascination for her.
